Local Dual Meet Season Comes to an End

(Photo above shows Seth Biberstine of Southern Wells controlling Andrew Beachey of South Adams in their dual meet matchup at 285 pounds Friday evening at South Adams.)

Just my luck!

I finally start getting wrestling assignments and the season finishes! There's still a couple of major tournaments to come, but local dual meet competition is done for the year here in northeast Indiana.

But, that will give me a chance to focus on the international scene and refamiliarize myself with events around the globe.

This week though, I just want to follow up on my comments last week about how announcers can help make a dual meet more interesting by doing more to inform the audience about what is going on.

The meet I went to Friday night went a long way to addressing the "issues" I wrote about last week. The announcer followed up his opening reading of the full list by announcing each bout as it came onto the mat. And included in the program given out at the door was a guide to scoring - both the individual points awarded within each bout, and the team scoring. Even the match official called out a reason he was awarding points when he did, which was, I believe, the first time I can recall seeing (or perhaps hearing) that here.

So this event was a lot easier to follow.

Just a little can go a long way!
